The humble coupon -- which in the past gave consumers a few cents off soap or cereal -- has mushroomed into a lifestyle for millions of Americans with its own television programs, websites and trading platforms. A total of 167 billion coupons were distributed to US consumers in the first six months of 2011, according to the research firm NCH Marketing Services, and the value of redeemed coupons rose 5.3 percent to $2 billion.
I just recently heard about Savings Angel (not to be confused with Angel Food Ministries - another way to save on groceries). Basically, they help make couponing simpler and faster. I have always been intrigued by those people who spend $100 to get $400 worth of groceries each month, but if you ask them, it takes a lot of work and time to save that much couponing.
Life is not cheap. The United States Department of Agriculture found that the average monthly cost of feeding a family of four as of May 2015 ranges from $565.20 to $1,292, depending on how "thrifty" you are and the age of your children. Then there are clothes, school supplies, entertainment, iPhones ...
Regardless of what state the economy is in, we're always looking to snag a good deal on everyday items such as food, clothes, auto maintenance, etc. While the old school method of couponing-clipping them out of the daily newspaper-is still relevant today, the easier method of using online codes and printable coupons is more popular than ever.
